Poker Gameplay & How to Play Poker
To start playing poker at Stake, you first need to create an account. Once set up, you can join a virtual poker table and have a chance to win big. The aim of the game is to build the best five-card hand, based on standard poker hand rankings.
Before you start, make sure to check out our comprehensive guide to playing poker online, and keep these basic rules in mind:
Basic Poker Rules
- You and the dealer each receive two cards—yours face up, the dealer’s face down.
- To keep playing, you must place another bet that is twice your original bet or fold and lose the initial bet.
- The dealer then deals three community cards face up on the table.
- Players decide whether to check or fold as more cards are dealt.
- This continues until all hands are finalized, and the winner is revealed.
Types of Poker Games
- Texas Hold’em: Players try to make the best five-card hand using two personal (“hole”) cards and five community cards.
- Omaha: Similar to Texas Hold’em, but each player gets four hole cards and must use two, along with three community cards, to make a hand.
Poker Game Modes
- Rapid Ring Games: Fast-paced games where you move to a new table after folding.
- Rapid Tournaments: Similar to fast fold tables, with players quickly moving to new tables after folding.
- Rabbit Hunting: See what cards would have been dealt if the game hadn’t ended early.
- Rebuy: Buy additional chips when your stack gets low in a tournament.
- Straddle: A special pre-flop bet that doubles the big blind, made by the player next to the big blind.
- Run It Twice: Players go all-in, and two separate sets of community cards are dealt, splitting the pot between the two best hands.
- Bomb Pot: Players skip the pre-flop, pay a fixed ante, and start with the flop to play for a large pot.
- Bounty: Players earn rewards for eliminating others in some tournaments.
- Shootout: Players win all the chips at their table before advancing to the next round.
- Lucky One Hand: Players go all-in each round with no betting involved.
